When you see this what do you think – firewood?
Having recently converted some wooden pallets into a boardwalk to divide my veggie patch, and yesterday acquiring some more from a builder who didn’t want them, it got me thinking about different ideas for recycling these ‘unwanted’ items. Here are a few images of projects I’ve trawled from the internet and a few links to sites with ideas on how to convert your pallets into useful objects around the garden (and further afield)- furniture, planters, walkways, fencing, buildings – the ideas seem limitless and the process fun. A sort of ‘grown up Lego’!
Do you have some ideas of your own not shown here? I’d love to hear from you and see your photos!

Hi Jerry
I love your idea and will use it at my local school garden where the canes are everywhere except tidy in one place! Thanks for sharing this – I’ll put a link into a future post I’m planning on further pallet ideas – if you have any others please let me know! 🙂
Hi Nigel, this was another of my money saving blogs, from earlier in the year, Only one picture but loads of good ideas. I will be making a brassica cage out of some perimeter pallets hopefully at the weekend. I’ll keep you updated

That’s great, thanks a lot!
Amazing thoughts. It looks good and very attractive. Pallets ensure more number of advantages. Make an effective use of it.
Thanks, glad you liked the article. I’m doing a follow up on Monday with a few more ideas.
Hi Nigel – had some time to take a proper look at these today. They’re fantastic – I really like the black painted pallets with Sedums – very classy, and the PalletenHaus is really wonderful.
Thanks Chas- yes there are some great ideas here, I think I’ll have a go at a vertical garden- maybe for strawberries or tumbling tomatoes- how about you?:)
I’m actually in great need of a compost bin at the moment so could tackle that. I did help take away an old door to make a desk from a place down the road that also has pallets lying around from time to time. So I could ask to have these too.
Reblogged this on BetR2 and commented:
Some amazing designer creations from the humble pallet. I’d be happy to have some of these at my place.
Thanks for the reblog!
No problem Nigel. I’ve seen a lot of uses for pallets, but you have collected some really great designs.
Kerri
Thanks- are you going to make something?:)
No plans (or spare pallets) at the moment Nigel, but always looking for inspiration.
Lots of inspiration here, and excellent links! There are lots of photos on Pinterest of this but half the links don’t work. Now I feel like I could do this. The videos are especially good.
Hi Michelle- thanks, glad the post was useful. What are you planning to make? I’d love to hear more of your plans and maybe have some pics to share?
Definitely, all I have to do is get on gumtree/freecycle and get some pallets! But raised beds are definitely in my future. I have also seen plans for adirondack chairs.
Great! keep me posted if you can. 🙂
Cracking post, Im just busy making a shed from pallets, fantastic thing is I can make it to whatever spec I want, as cheap as chips 🙂 @ the palletshed.com
Cool. I’ve heard that you can take an old pallet, cover it with screen and start piling compost on it. The air circulation from underneath cause faster decomposition.
Thanks- that’s right. I’ve used pallets at the bottom of my compost bins to do just this!
