Do you happen to know the species of the trees? I read a book awhile back about ‘lost crafts’ and in it they had the fine arts of building a living fence – here locally, it seems you can weave the limbs of a tree called the Cherokee Orange (? think that’s right, but have forgotten the latin name) – would love to know what species of tree was used for these houses! π
Sorry, don’t know, and can;t recall where I got the picture to see if there’s more information. My guess as to location is either Africa or South America, but who knows! Would love mroe info about your fencing tree! We have a technique here called ‘hedge layering’ which is something similar- got to do some this a year or two back, π
Went to look up the link for you and OH! discovered I had mixed up two stories – one of a couple homesteading in Cherokee Valley and the hedgerows they built with two others mentioning the use of Osage Orange trees! Oops! π
