Mile End Park
‘Mile End Park is unusual. It was created as a result of a plan for London in the 1940s which envisaged that there would be several green areas connecting different areas of London to the River Thames.
As a result the park has been created from land brought into park uses over 50 years – much of it formerly housing and industrial buildings. Some of this land is separated by roads, railways and waterways.’ (Tower Hamlets Council website)

The speciality of Mile End Park is the ‘green bridge’ over Mile End Road. The bridge is locally known as the banana bridge because it’s ….yellow! The park also incorporates the Regents Canal. At the southern end is the Ragged School Museum which was Barnardo’s first school.
Thanks for the additional info, Jen. Hope you have a good weekend! 🙂
How did I know all this Nige? Because I regularly had to troop a class of children across the park dressed in full Victorian costume to the Ragged School. It enlivened many a commuter and rough sleeper’s morning! There was quite a lot of vandalism in the early days but it has settled down now, especially in the watery areas. Love the garden piccies you post.
Hi Jen- thanks for that, glad you like the pics! Have a good weekend?
