Hi, We would like to know how to construct this type of beautiful paving, what preparation etc would we need and types of stone.
Many thanks
Hi Carole…I suggest that you search for ‘laying a path’ online for basic technique; you may get away with a rubble foundation plus a screed of sharp sand and cement into which you bed the various surfacing materials. You then brush the same mix (dryer than for the bedding layer) into the gaps between the stones and press this in using a pointing trowel or something similar. Use a watering can to wet the pointing and set it.The surface material is a mix of odd pieces of different s;abs/stone and pebbles etc., possibly the stone could be got from a reclamation yard or you could buy new and break up to create random pieces. Hope this helps!
Hi, thanks so much for your advice
Can you tell me what the best mix for the screed is?
Hi Carole, 1 part cement to 4 parts sharp sand should be ok. Good luck!
I absolutely love it. So much colour, pattern and texture.
I have seen this before and am always amazed at the beauty of the design. I would enjoy making one except I don’t think it would work well being shoveled for months on end. ๐ But, I do love looking at it.
Hi, yes local conditions need to be considered! ๐
